Nora Younis & Hala Galal

In conversation: Nora Younis (Managing Editor at Al-Masry Al-Youm Daily Independent) and Hala Galal (Filmmaker)

Nora Younis is a human rights activist, journalist and blogger. She has won awards for her work using new media tools to expose human rights violations and police brutality. Before joining AlMasry AlYoum, Nora covered the Middle East for The Washington Post as well as other international print media. Her expertise in mainstream journalism interweaves with her experience as a prominent blogger using new media tools.

Hala Galal is a filmmaker, director and producer from Egypt. Working for a decade in the city of Cairo she created SEMAT, an organisation for supporting Independent Cinema in Egypt and the Arab World. Hala was also the director of The Caravan of the Euro-Arab Cinema, a promotion project for European and Arab cinema. She was a member of jury at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival and holds a BA in Media Studies from Cairo University and a BA in Film Studies from the Higher Institute of Cinema.
